Ledge Light Offering Free Smoking Cessation Programs in New London- posted 05.05.10
Ledge Light Health District is providing free smoking cessation programs at two locations in New London starting mid-February.

The first program will begin on Wednesday, February 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Mohican Apartments on 281 State St. The second program will start on Monday, February 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Opportunities Industrialization Center on 106 Truman St.

ACHIEVE Makes Recommendations for a Healthier New London- posted 05.05.10
Community leaders from ACHIEVE New London reported their recommendations for a healthier New London to the City Council Public Welfare Committee on November 30.  The recommendations to reduce and prevent chronic disease among New London residents, follows a six month review of existing policies, systems and environmental conditions that may be impacting the city’s health.

Ledge Light Health District (District) is holding a public hearing on Thursday, October 22nd at 5:00 p.m.  in the main auditorium at Waterford Town Hall to discuss the implementation of a Permit to Discharge Regulation. Residents of the municipalities of East Lyme, Groton, Ledyard, New London and Waterford may attend. Ledge Light Health District is among 10 local health departments in the United States selected by the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) to advance community leadership in the nation’s efforts to prevent chronic disease. The ACHIEVE (Action Community for Health, Innovation and Environmental Change) Program will bring together local leaders and community members in the city of New London for the purpose of promoting policies, creating new systems and changing conditions in the community to improve nutrition, increase physical activity and reduce tobacco use.
