J.C. Penney Recalls Deluxe Art Sets Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the
firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following
consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products
immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Deluxe Wood Art Sets
Units: About 19,000
Importer: J.C. Penney, of Plano, Texas
Hazard: Surface paint on the outside of the wooden box contains
excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.
Incidents/Injuries: None reported.
Description: The recalled art set consists of a wooden box with several
pull-out trays containing 177 different art items, including paints and
brushes.
Sold through: The J.C. Penney catalog and Web site from September 2005
through August 2007 for about $40.
Manufactured in: Taiwan and Vietnam
Remedy: Consumers should take the recalled products away from young
children immediately and return it to any J.C. Penney store for a full
refund.
