Recall of Shellfish Harvested from Mount Sinai Harbor - posted 11.23.09
Based on information gathered during an ongoing investigation into illegal oyster harvesting, the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today announced the immediate closure of Mount Sinai Harbor (Suffolk County) to shellfishing due to elevated levels of fecal coliform. As a precaution to protect public health, DEC is also instituting a recall of all shellfish harvested in the harbor and sold since Nov. 9. [Read More>]

North Coast Seafood is issuing a voluntary recall of fresh tuna steaks sold at Shaw’s, Star Market, and Big Y grocery stores because of possible elevated levels of histamine. North Coast Seafood is advising consumers to avoid consumption of this product. The Connecticut Department of Public Health is issuing an advisory on the consumption of two commonly caught fish found in the Long Island Sound: Striped Bass and Bluefish. These fish contain polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) at levels of concern to the general public.

of Connecticut Consumer Product Safety Commission warned consumers that
sprout products produced by Amalgamated Produce Inc. (API) of
Bridgeport, Connecticut are being recalled based on a sample collected
from a supermarket in New York that tested positive for Listeria
monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal
infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with
weakened immune systems. The sprouts products have been carried by Stop
and Shop,
Shoprite and Price Chopper stores in Connecticut.
